I’m River Sanoy. I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

From an early age, I was captivated by computers. My father, a computer scientist, would code, and I was fascinated by how he could transform what seemed like incomprehensible text into something functional and meaningful. Watching this process sparked my curiosity, and I knew I wanted to grow up and master this "language" myself.

Another area that has always fascinated me is health sciences. My passion for this field began in high school when I took a biochemistry class that explored the inner workings of the human body. After that, I sought ways to combine my interest in health sciences with my love for computer science. Fortunately, I discovered the perfect program at the University of Calgary—Bioinformatics—which combined both of my passions.

Bioinformatics, born from the Human Genome Project, is a field that combines biology, computer science, and data analysis to interpret vast biological datasets, such as DNA and amino acid sequences. Initially aimed at using the human genome to cure diseases, bioinformatics now plays a crucial role in identifying and treating illnesses through genetic information. As technology advances, this interdisciplinary field is expected to drive future breakthroughs in disease diagnosis and personalized medicine.

Today, I am looking to contribute to the field of health sciences, using my passion for computer science to make programs and applications that can cure disease.
